Job Description
A privately owned, well established and growing waste management organization located in central MA is seeking a Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance Manager. In this role, you will direct and coordinate activities of workers engaged in maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned):
• Always act as an advocate of the company and represent Management appropriately.
• Confers with department supervisors to arrange for motor vehicles and equipment to be released from service for inspection, service, or repair.
• Establishes policies for inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles; schedules repairs; assigns and directs activities of service and repair personnel; and follows up on repairs being made.
• Authorizes and arranges for purchase of supplies, tools, and machinery.
• Consults with officials of operating and servicing divisions on vehicle replacement needs.
• Contracts for repair services not performed in shop.
• Directs and coordinates the daily activities of mechanics and administrative clerk. Provides technical and administrative assistance and guidance. Prioritize and schedules jobs.
• Examines vehicles and equipment to determine the nature and extent of damage or malfunction. Plans work procedures using knowledge obtained from technical manuals and experience.
• Oversees purchase of vehicles, equipment, tools and supplies. Determines specifications ("spec out") of new vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain compliance with government (federal, state, and local) regulations concerning vehicles and garage working conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, vehicle inspections, permits, and registrations, and OSHA regulations.
• Conducts road testing of truck drivers.
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Manages subordinate lead people who supervise employees in the Garage.
• Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises various non-supervisory employees.
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Employee Performance Reviews: Must be completed properly and on a timely basis (on or before the review date).
• Employee discipline: In situations, which warrant disciplinary action, must be performed according to Company progressive discipline standards.
• Continually search for ways to improve the processes.

The candidate must have demonstrated experience in the maintenance and purchase of heavy equipment and trucks to be considered!
• Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
• Current Valid CDL License.

• Must possess fluency in the English Language.
