Dept of Occupational Safety - Proposed New Regulations for Civil Administrative Penalties

On April 10, 2009, the MA Dept. Of Occupational Safety (DOS) posted a Notice of Public Hearing for changes to the regulations on licensing/registration of employment agencies and new civil administrative penalties.

The DOS is holding a public hearing on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 from 10am to 2pm in Minihan Hall, 6th Fl., Charles F. Hurley Bldg, 19 Stanford St., Boston, MA  and on Thursday, May 14, 2009 from 10am to 2pm in Rm 305, Springfield State Office Bldg, 436 Dwight St., Springfield MA.

I encourage all agency owners to attend either/both public hearings to express your dissatisfaction with these proposed changes as they mean to impose upon the staffing and recruiting industry for violations of these proposed changes.  Additionally, I implore you to contact your MA congressional delegates to inform them of the effect these proposed changes will have on us as businesses in MA.

If you cannot make it to either hearing, you can send your comments on the proposed changes to Laura Marlin, Commissioner, MA Division of Occupational Safety, 19 Stanford St., 2nd Fl., Boston, MA  02114 until the close of business on May 22, 2009.

Now, more than ever, it is important for us to band together as a single body to let government know how they are hurting us (in 2007, we were a $1.8 billion industry) and that these rules/regulations only further hinder Massachusetts from speeding up economic recovery.  I would ask each and everyone one of you to pass this along to any agency/recruiter whom you know and make them aware.

I have attached the pdf document with the proposed changes.  Please take a moment to review this information.

Regards,
