COBRA Flyers

The stimulus package contained a provision for the payment of Cobra benefits for the involuntarily terminated employee commonly thought of as an employee that was laid off, this quickly changed to anyone that would have been given an offer of Cobra benefits. See attachments.

If you have over 20 eligible employees you must send letters to any employee that was on your group health plan, and has benefits, or would have been offered benefits as of 9-1-08 until now, and continuing until 12-31-09. You have to pay 65% of the Cobra costs. That means if your family plan rate is $1,000 your company must pay $650 each month, that the employee wants to continue coverage. You can apply the amount you pay against your 941 quarterly tax return. See attachment.

If you have under 20 eligible employees you need to work with your insurance carrier on how this offer will be done.  They don't want to do it.  If you have problems with your carrier you can give me a call, and I will help get this fixed.

You need to have posters up, even if you don't offer health insurance. See attachment.  This is going to be a mess, and of course there are fines if you don't comply.  For more information on this or any health care reform please contact me.
