Central MA Legislators Answer Questions at Chamber Breakfast

Yesterday, seven Senators and Representatives from Central MA attended the annual Corridor Nine Chamber of Commerce legislative breakfast at the Doubletree Hotel in Westboro.

Among the attendees were:

Rep. Matthew Beaton (11th Worcester Dist.), Sen. Harriette Chandler (1st Worcester Dist.), Rep Carolyn Dykema (8th Middlesex Dist.), Sen. James Eldridge (MIddlesex and Worcester District), Rep. Steven Levy (4th Middlesex Dist.), Sen. Michael Moore (2nd Worcester Dist.) and Rep. George Peterson (9th Worcester Dist.)

REMINDER: Comments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on its recently issued proposed rule changing the Board's procedure for union election campaigns are due by Monday, August 22, 2011. 

Mandate for Paid Sick Leave Arrives in Connecticutt

On July 1, 2011, Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy signed into law Public Act No. 11-52 (the “Act”) which will make Connecticut the first state to mandate paid sick leave. The Act, which only narrowly passed through Connecticut’s Senate (18-17) and House of Representatives (76-65), is set to take effect on January 1, 2012, and requires employers to allow their “service workers” to earn one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked, capped at a maximum of 40 hours per year.
